The Dead Sea Scrolls

Discovered:   Accidentally discovered in 1947, thirteen miles east of Jerusalem on the northwest shore of the Dead Sea in the West Bank. There have been numerous discoveries made over the years as more and more caves were discovered.

Written:  In biblical Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek on leather parchment, papyrus and copper (1 scroll). Thought to be written from 200 B.C. to 68 A.D.

About them:  The Dead Sea Scrolls were hidden in various caves on the Northwest shore of the Dead Sea. The best preserved documents were sealed in clay jars and wrapped in linen covers. The Dead Sea Scrolls clearly show the extreme efforts taken to preserve the accuracy of Biblical writings. These are the oldest known copies of the Bible and their content hardly differs from the versions used today.
